Background

Healthcare of New Zealand Limited (Healthcare NZ) is one of New Zealand’s largest privately owned healthcare companies. It provides nursing and caring for people in their own homes and is also a leading provider of specialised homes in the community for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

The company has 5,000 staff at 30 homecare branches, 40 houses, and nine residential units and aged-care hospitals.

Challenges and Goals

Healthcare is a long-term client of PayGlobal. It had been using the DOS-based TimeMaster system, PayGlobal’s predecessor, for five years before deciding to upgrade to PayGlobal in 2001. According to the Chief Financial Officer Richard Williams, there were a number of reasons for making the upgrade.

“We knew the company and when we were shown PayGlobal, we could see that it was a good product -- it was cost-effective and had strong basic functionality.

“We were already using the company’s previous product so we knew that transferring new information would be relatively simple to do.

“We were also reassured by the fact that PayGlobal Payroll could be integrated into other products, such as HR,” Richard says.

Process and Solution

Healthcare runs PayGlobal Payroll and Human Resources in-house.

PayGlobal Payroll was implemented at HealthcareNZ in 2001 and then Payroll Supervisor at the company’s Palmerston North processing centre, Clive Key, says the changeover from TimeMaster to PayGlobal went very smoothly. HealthcareNZ has also implemented PayGlobal Human Resources.

Business Results and Return

Clive Key says PayGlobal assisted them to change their outdated processes and introduce efficiencies. For example, the ability to choose report delivery methods using the new system was particularly useful. “Instead of printing off reports and couriering them to head office, we simply select to email them. That saves both time and money,” says Clive.

Richard Williams says PayGlobal's reporting capabilities are impressive. “Head office can easily get the reports that we want, when we want them. This ability is very helpful to us, both in terms of financial planning and overall strategic planning.

“Payroll users have also been impressed with the product. It’s very user-friendly.”

Richard says the HR module provides organisational benefits in areas such as staff training and occupational safety and health. “We currently use a variety of systems, but with PayGlobal HR we are able to organise all that information into one centralised database, helping us to manage our information better.” Gaining more control over the healthcare provider’s HR information is a key benefit of the module, he says.
